OUR STORY

1st April 2012. It was a bright sunny morning in Salalah, Oman when the ever-motivating Principal of Indian School Salalah, Mr.Trevor Ronald Brown was speaking to the students in the school assembly. He spoke about the importance of nature protection and environment conservation. He informed the Students about Project Earth World Environment Day Global School Contest, an international contest conducted by United Nations Rio+20 Summit to hunt for eco-warriors of tomorrow. Hridith Sudev, a then grade 7 student keenly listened to his address. That day was filled with  more news on 'eco-friendliness'. Hridith's Social science teacher Mrs. Usha taught the children about pollution and that each one should contribute their little bit. She finished up by encouraging each one to take part in the Project Earth World Environment Day Global School Contest. As the entire school began going green, Hridith Sudev came up with an idea,Project GreenOman. With the help of the Eco-Club Co-ordinator of Indian School Salalah, another social science teacher, Mr.Samuel John, Sudev along with his younger brother Samved Shaji, a then 2nd grader began the Project GreenOman.

On 5 April 2012, Mast. Hridith Sudev realizing that an international approach was more relevant in the field of sustainability, founded, 'Project GreenWorld International', an organization which is completely managed by kids. The organization focused on

  • Global Warming & Climate change

  • Ecosystem Conservation

  • Recycling and Waste management

  • Green buildings

  • Water Conservation

  • Spreading awareness about the need to Conserve Nature.

Within a week he incorporated the previous Project GreenOman as a constituent regional project of Project GreenWorld International which focuses on making Oman a greener nation. Like many other teachers, Mr. Unnikrishnan, the Social Science Department HOD (Head of the Department) of Indian School Salalah gave PRGROM guidance and advice. Gradually he gave Project GreenOman a chance to showcase their nature love. This greatly boosted PGWI's growth, making it a full-fledged organization. It won the World Environment Day Global School Contest conducted by the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20). This organization is one among the few organizations founded by kids to get an international recognition. Hridith Sudev and Samved Shaji were officially declared as the representatives of Oman to Rio+20 on July 22, 2012. But their work didnot stop there. Memberships grew. Children between grade 2 and grade 10 began enrolling in hordes. By January 2014 the organization had more than 50 members and heapfuls of local awards to their credit. On June 5, 2014, International Energy Globe Award, Austria declared Project GreenOman as Oman's best project for sustainability and PRGROM became Oman's National winner for Energy Globe Awards 2014.

On 17th July 2016, Project GreenWorld International officially launched its operations in India under the Project name, 'Project GreenIndia.' PGWI has hence become a global champion in educating children about sustainability.
